Chicken Manchurian Recipe
Chicken Manchurian is a popular dish in Indian/Pakistan/Chinese cuisine. It is a spicy and savory dish made of bite-sized pieces of chicken that are first coated in a batter made of flour, spices, and egg, then deep-fried until crispy. The crispy chicken is then stir-fried with a flavorful sauce made of ingredients such as onion, bell peppers, ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar, and brown sugar. The dish is often served with rice and is known for its tangy and spicy taste.
Ingredients:
- 1 pound boneless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp ginger powder
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup cornstarch
- Vegetable oil for frying
For the sauce:
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons ginger, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1/2 cup tomato ketchup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, mix together chicken, flour, garlic powder, ginger powder, soy sauce, salt, black pepper, and beaten egg.
- Coat each piece of chicken in cornstarch.
- In a deep pan, heat vegetable oil for frying. Fry the chicken pieces until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on a paper towel.
- In a separate pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil and saute onion, garlic, and ginger until softened.
- Add red and green bell peppers, and continue to sauté for another 2 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar, and brown sugar.
- Add this mixture to the pan and stir until well combined.
- In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water. Gradually add this mixture to the pan, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
- Add the fried chicken pieces to the pan and stir until coated in the sauce.
- Serve hot with rice, garnished with green onions. Enjoy!
