Imli(Tamarind) Sharbat
Imli Sharbat is a traditional Indian and Pakistani beverage that is made using tamarind, a key ingredient that gives it its unique and tangy flavor. Recipe for Amli Sharbat:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup tamarind pulp
- 4 cups water
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2-3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon black salt
- 1/4 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- A few sprigs of fresh mint leaves
Instructions:
- In a large pot, combine the tamarind pulp and water. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the tamarind pulp is dissolved and the mixture is slightly thickened.
- Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes, then strain it through a fine mesh strainer or muslin cloth to remove any solids.
- Add sugar and salt to the strained tamarind mixture and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Add lemon juice, black salt, roasted cumin powder, and mint leaves to the mixture and stir well.
- Chill the sharbat in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and serve cold.
